In a world that is unpredictable and a maternity system that is often not caring, my mantra this year has been:
“I am working to unlearn fear and re-invigorate my intuitive skill for supporting mothers and families.”
Emma has always been a doula.
Although her formal doula training started in Vermont in 2021, Emma has always shown a passion for advocacy, emotional encouragement, and supporting mothers. After obtaining her nursing degree and supporting 150+ births as a nurse on labor and delivery, Emma became motivated by the changes she wanted to see in the maternity system and decided to come back to the care she was even more powerful than nursing: continuous birth doula support, postpartum support, and perinatal education for expectant parents and families. That is why she created Mothers’ Mantras as a birthday present to herself in January of 2026.
Emma believes that informational support and practical skills for movement in pregnancy, labor, and postpartum can transform these critical transitions and make for an easier path to confident mothering and parenthood.
Everyone’s needs are different, but Emma believes that everyone can benefit from a doula and mindful movement to support them through their pregnancy journey.
Background
Emma is a registered nurse, graduating from the University of Vermont with her Bachelor of Nursing Science in 2023. She is a Birth and Postpartum Doula, certified through Childbirth International, and a certified 200-hour yoga instructor with her 85-hour Prenatal Certification. Emma has taken the Spinning Babies® Foundational Workshop and has witnessed the power of these skills in action.
Emma is also a midwifery student at Rutgers’ School of Nursing in Newark, NJ, hoping to be able to start “catching” babies in the Summer of 2029.
What is a Doula?
—
A doula is a catch-all term for someone who cares for and supports a mother and family through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Doulas provide non-medical support through physical coping skills, emotional and spiritual support, and mentorship through navigating this important transition. Doulas are better known for continuous birth support, but can also be a tremendous help through pregnancy and postpartum.
